While Auburn is best known for its success on the football field, its basketball program has built a tradition of success as well.
Entering the 2024-25 season, the Tigers have won 3 SEC Tournament championships, made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances and came within a controversial late foul call against Virginia from playing for the national championship in 2019.
Auburn has produced a Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer in Charles Barkley, the 1984 SEC Player of the Year who went on to successful professional careers as both a player and television analyst, along with 2 other conference Players of the Year — Chris Porter in 1999 and Johni Broome in 2025.
The architect of its most recent success is coach Bruce Pearl, who surpassed Joel Eaves as the school’s winningest coach by beating Texas A&M on Jan. 7, 2025, for his 214th victory at Auburn.
