Louisville basketball is a study in contrast.
It’s among the winningest programs in NCAA history, ranking in the top 10 all-time among Division I schools in wins and winning percentage, including a record 46 consecutive winning seasons from 1944 to 1990 while bouncing around between the Missouri Valley and Metro conferences, Conference-USA, the Big East and the ACC.
The Cardinals have won 3 national championships, produced 7 consensus first-team All-Americans and 2 Naismith Hall of Famers. But they’re also the only NCAA Tournament winner to have its vacated because of an ugly scandal whose aftereffects sent the program onto a downward spiral.
