About Texas Basketball
After enjoying successful runs in both the Southwest Conference and Big 12, the Longhorns have taken on the challenge of competing against the nation’s best in the SEC.
Their rich history includes some of the best players in basketball history, including future NBA MVP and 2-time league champion Kevin Durant, fellow Wooden Award winner TJ Ford and 7-time NBA All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge. Although Texas has never won a national championship, it ranks 17th among NCAA Division I programs in all-time victories.
The Longhorns have won 28 conference championships and have made 28 trips to the NCAA Tournament, including 3 Final Four appearances – the most recent of which came in 2003 under coach Rick Barnes. As of the 2024-25 season, Texas’ 40 NCAA Tournament wins are tied with Kansas State and Notre Dame for fourth among teams that have never cut down the nets as national champions.
Following their opening-round elimination at the hands of Xavier, the Longhorns began a new era with the hiring of Sean Miller as their 25th head coach on March 23, 2025.
