ACC commissioner Jim Phillips makes 2 embarrassing Jordan Travis slip-ups during TV appearance
ACC commissioner Jim Phillips appeared on College GameDay this morning to make the case for his teams ahead of Selection Sunday. Instead, most people are paying attention to 2 embarrassing slip-ups the commissioner made.
While talking about the injury to Jordan Travis last season, the commissioner mistakenly referred to Travis as the previous Miami QB and the current SMU QB.
“Last year we suffered through having to hear about Jordan Travis being out and Miami not being the same,” said Phillips. “Well, it cuts both ways. Since Jordan Travis took over, (SMU) is 9-0. They have more Power 4 wins than Texas does.”
Of course, Jordan Travis was actually Florida State’s QB last season. The commissioner meant to say Florida State instead of Miami. And then, Kevin Jennings is SMU’s QB this season, not Travis.
So Jim Phillips says that Jordan Travis was Miami’s QB last year while also saying he was SMU’s QB this year.

It is unfortunate that Phillips made these slip-ups because his point is valid. Florida State was left out of the 4-team Playoff last year after Travis suffered a serious injury. SMU also lost their starting QB this season, but Jennings the backup has been even better.
SMU is set to take on Clemson in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday. If the Mustangs win, they are in the Playoff automatically. However, if the Mustangs lose, the team faces the possibility of being left out in favor of Alabama.
The ACC title game will kick off from Charlotte at 8:00 p.m. ET.
