Charlotte has its new head coach.
Th 49ers parted with Biff Poggi during the 2024 season, seeing Tim Brewster finish the season as the interim head coach. On Sunday, the program announced that Tim Albin is the school’s new full-time head coach.
“I am beyond excited to begin this new journey at Charlotte and start the process of developing the 49ers into the championship-caliber program we all believe it can and should be,” Albin said in a program release. “I would like to thank Chancellor Sharon Gaber and (athletic director) Mike Hill for their trust and belief in our future together. I cannot wait to get started.”
Albin, 59, heads to Charlotte after 20 seasons at Ohio, including the past 4 as head coach of the Bobcats. Under Albin, Ohio has enjoyed 3 consecutive 10-win seasons. The Bobcats are set to play in the Cure Bowl. Albin was named MAC Coach of the Year for the 2024 season, an honor he previously claimed in the 2022 season.
“It is a true privilege and honor to welcome Tim, his wife Brooke, daughter Tori, and son Treyce to Charlotte,” Hill said in a released statement “We had incredible interest in this position which speaks to the remarkable opportunity ahead of Tim and the program he will build here in the Queen City. From the outset, we sought an experienced collegiate coach with a proven track record of sustained success on the field and in the recruitment and development of student-athletes. Tim’s professional accolades and resume check all those boxes, but his leadership, stewardship, and commitment to the holistic development of our football student-athletes set him apart.”
Albin began his coaching career in the NAIA ranks at Northwestern Oklahoma State, his alma mater. In 2000, he joined the Nebraska coaching staff as a graduate assistant and served as part of the Huskers’ on-field offensive staff in 2003. In 2004, he was offensive coordinator and running backs coach at North Dakota State, landing the OC position at Ohio the following season.
