College football bowl game to debut first-ever edible mascot to be eaten by players

One college football bowl game will feature an edible mascot on hand for the 2023-24 bowl season. Yes, you read that right, and the horrific story does not stop there.
Per Nicole Auerbach with The Athletic, the Pop-Tarts Bowl (formerly known as the Cheez-It Bowl) in Orlando will have an edible mascot. The bowl also announced the mascot would be consumed with players from the winning team running to take a bit from the giant pastry mascot immediately after the final whistle.
That is certainly an odd visual to try and digest, and yes, the pun is absolutely intended. But, if you’re wondering how that scene plays out, you can see it all Thursday, Dec. 28 with a 5:45 pm ET broadcast of the game.
Very important news: The @PopTartsBowl will have the first-ever edible mascot.

The bowl game will feature teams from the ACC and the Big 12, but fans are more concerned about the recently revealed mascot angle. The college football world understandably had a field day with that announcement:
Dumping boxes and boxes of Pop-Tarts on the winning coach would be awesome, but everyone gathering to take bites out of the giant Pop-Tart mascot is… really gross?? https://t.co/ellXcwXc2T

As of this moment I am now deeply invested in K-State going to and winning the Pop-Tarts Bowl https://t.co/BUIxA1A5Do

Man, I know a lot of NC State fans want the Orange Bowl … but I’m really rooting hard for the Pop-Tarts Bowl. https://t.co/xt8uYHRira

Please, please make this as disturbing as possible—have the mascot plea for mercy over the stadium PA system: “Help… they’re eating meeeee!”? https://t.co/i84hIg7EoC
