The final score of Saturday’s game between the SMU Mustangs and the Houston Cougars looked more like a basketball score than anything else.
While both teams were clearly rolling on offense in a way no other college football matchup this past week, presented, it was quarterback Tanner Mordecai and his Mustangs that came out top of a 77-63 final score. It marked the highest-scoring regulation game in FBS history.

Mordecai put on a record-breaking performance, completing 28-of-37 passes for 379 yards with 9 passing touchdowns. He also had 54 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on the ground. Houston quarterback Clayton Tune was almost as equally as impressive statistically while lacking in some areas compared to Mordecai, completing 36-of-53 passing attempts for 527 yards with 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
He too did good work in the ground game, recording 111 rushing yards and 1 touchdown.
SMU will look to stay on the right side of the win column as it faces USF on the road Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
