ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the outcome of each college football game before every week. The model also calculates each team’s chance to win their conference, make the Playoff, and win the national championship.

After Week 9, the model has updated its national championship odds. Even with a loss, the Texas Longhorns are still the team with the best odds, with the FPI giving the team a 15.0% chance to win it all.

The Longhorns had a scare in Week 9, barely getting by Vanderbilt in Nashville. The team with the 2nd-best odds, Ohio State, also had a scare in Week 9, as the Buckeyes narrowly defeated Nebraska.

Georgia and Alabama have the 3rd and 4th best odds respectively. Georgia was on a bye week in Week 9, while the Tide easily got by Missouri, winning 34-0.

Miami and Oregon are tied with the 5th-best odds at 7.9%. Miami easily defeated Florida State in Week 9, while Oregon picked up an impressive victory over Illinois.

Check out the 10 teams with the best odds to win it all according to FPI:

  1. Texas — 15.0%
  2. Ohio State — 13.5%
  3. Georgia — 11.0%
  4. Alabama — 8.2%
  5. Miami — 7.9%
  6. Oregon — 7.9%
  7. Tennessee — 7.1%
  8. Penn State — 6.4%
  9. Notre Dame — 6.3%
  10. Indiana — 3.6%

After Indiana, every other team has less than a 3% chance to win the national championship. Four SEC and 4 B1G teams make the top 10, with Miami being the lone ACC representative and Notre Dame being the lone independent.

The Hoosiers are the surprise of the college football season. The team remained perfect in Week 9, improving to 8-0 and earning their best start to a season in over 50 years.

The model updates every week and there are sure to be changes after Week 10.
