FBS teams in Florida post second-ever winless Saturday

Florida has far from had the best year in 2024 across the college football landscape. The expectations for Florida State were sky-high after an impressive performance by the Seminoles in 2023, but they have far from been able to build upon it.

There was also some excitement surrounding the Gators after head coach Billy Napier signed a top-15 recruiting class that included star quarterback and former Gatorade Player of the Year DJ Lagway. Both teams have fallen (extremely) short of the bar in 2024, as the state posted its second-ever winless Saturday in Week 11.

And, this time, that even included Miami.

While the Gators unceremoniously fell 49-17 to the Texas Longhorns and the Seminoles were bested 52-3 by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Hurricanes were stunned with a 28-23 loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on the road. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg as to just how truly bad the weekend was for the Sunshine State in college football.

As was noted by Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press, Florida’s seven FBS programs (Miami, Florida, Florida State, UCF, South Florida, Florida Atlantic and Florida International) all went 0-5 in combination on the exact same Saturday.

With Miami having the chance to serve as the redemption with what still looks like a favorable College Football Playoff berth, it will be interesting to watch how these teams bounce back when they hit the field next.
