TCU on Sunday announced that it and head football coach Gary Patterson have parted ways. The move is effective immediately.

Patterson took over at TCU for Dennis Franchione before the Horned Frogs’ bowl game in 2000 after the latter departed for Alabama. His record at the helm of the program was 181-79, with a 13-0 season and a Rose Bowl victory in 2010.

However, after an 11-3 season in 2017 that saw it finish 7-2 in the Big 12, win the Alamo Bowl and end the year ranked No. 9 in the country, TCU has underachieved and failed to stake its claim in a football-rich state of Texas. Its record since then is just 21-22, including a 13-19 mark in the Big 12. A 31-12 loss to Kansas State dropped the Horned Frogs to 3-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

Jerry Kill, currently the special assistant to the head coach, will take over the program on an interim basis.
