Properly dubbed the Iron Bowl, the Alabama vs. Auburn rivalry has helped shape college football over history. With Alabama and Auburn separated by only 157 miles, the Iron Bowl is considered one of the most important football rivalries in American sports. Both schools were charter members of the Southeastern Conference.
The first game played between the 2 teams happened in 1893, when Auburn beat Alabama 32-22. For much of the 20th century, the Iron Bowl was played in Birmingham; however, since 1999, the games are played at Jordan-Hare Stadium in odd-numbered years and at Bryant-Denny Stadium in even-numbered years. The game has been played in 4 different cities during its history: Auburn, Birmingham, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.
Even in recent years, the rivalry has provided plenty of drama. Who could forget the iconic “Kick Six” game in 2013? Or the “Camback” in 2010 when Cam Newton led Auburn back from a 24-point deficit?
It’s not just Auburn that provides the drama. In 2021, Bryce Young led Alabama to a thrilling 4OT 24-22 win after trailing for much of regulation. As the Iron Bowl rivalry continues, incredible endings are sure to follow.
Alabama leads Auburn in the series 52-37-1 after winning the 2025 Iron Bowl.

What is Alabama’s Longest Winning Streak vs Auburn?
Alabama beat Auburn 9 consecutive times from 1973-1981. That’s the longest winning streak for either team in the Iron Bowl. Auburn ended the streak in 1982, when Bo Jackson jumped over the Alabama defensive line to score the winning touchdown in the final minutes. That was Bear Bryant’s final season as the Alabama coach.
What is Auburn’s Longest Winning Streak vs Alabama?
Auburn beat Alabama 6 consecutive times from 2002-2007. It can easily be argued that Auburn’s streak played a huge part in Alabama going all-in to hire Nick Saban ahead of the 2007 season. Saban lost his first Iron Bowl in 2007, but then beat Auburn 12 times in his final 16 tries.
