The Florida vs. Georgia rivalry is one of the nation’s best matchups annually in the SEC. It started as an SEC East rivalry, but continues even though the league did away with divisions before the 2024 season.
The Georgia Bulldogs dominated the series from the start in 1904, beating the Gators 52-0 in the first ever meeting. UGA then proceeded to reel off 7 consecutive wins over the Gators and 22 wins in the first 25 games. However, Florida started dominating in its own right when Steve Spurrier came to Gainesville in 1990. Spurrier’s Gators beat Georgia 7 consecutive years to start his tenure, including winning 11 of the 12 games during his Gators career. The lone loss came in 1997 when UGA handed Spurrier’s Gators a 37-17 loss. Once Spurrier left Florida, the Bulldogs started winning a few more games.
Fast forward to 2025, where Georgia has won 7 of the past 8 games (including 4 in a row) and doesn’t look it’s stopping anytime soon. Florida is rebuilding its program under Billy Napier, while Kirby Smart has his UGA program on autopilot loaded with top-tier talent, having won the 2021 and 2022 national championships.
