Mountain West making ‘significant push’ to core programs amid Pac-12 interest, per report
By Mark Kern
Published:
Mountain West teams have been getting some looks from the Pac-12 as the conference tries to stay relevant after losing all but Washington State and Oregon State to the B1G and ACC this season. This has caused the Pac-12 to become very active in finding new teams.
However, the Mountain West showed that the conference isn’t going to go down without a fight and is doing everything in its power to keep the league together.
Sources: The Mountain West is amid a significant push to keep its core of eight schools together, which includes one-time payments of guaranteed money to the schools. Those include large payments to both UNLV and Air Force, which have drawn interest from other leagues

ESPN College football analyst Pete Thamel posted on X that the conference is doing whatever it can to keep the core eight schools together. This would involve a payment of guaranteed money. UNLV and Air Force are 2 teams that Thamel mentioned as receiving a large payment.
UNLV has been a team that the Pac-12 has been very interested in, as the conference has been targeting the Rebels over the past few days.
The Pac-12 is now at 6 teams, as it was announced that Boise State, Fresno State, Colorado State and San Diego State recently joined the conference.
To be considered an FBS conference, the Pac-12 would have to add 2 teams. Utah State is reportedly another team the conference is looking to add as it tries to salvage the remaining part of the conference.
