Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II — last year’s Doak Walker Award winner and a legitimate contender to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024 — was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to multiple reports.
The news was first shared by local TV anchor Jonathan Cooper. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by multiple outlets, Gordon was pulled over for driving 82 in a 65 miles-per-hour zone and swerving through traffic. During the traffic stop, troopers found open bottles of tequila and vodka in his car.
Gordon was taken to the Cleveland County jail in Oklahoma, where he provided breath samples that registered a breath alcohol content (BrAC) of .11 and .10, according to The Athletic. Gordon was booked on charges of DUI under 21 years of age, having an open alcohol container, failure to maintain a single driving lane, and speeding. He has since been released on bond, according to reports.
An Oklahoma State spokesperson told The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy the school was “aware of it” but had no further comment.
Gordon is a true junior from Fort Worth, Texas. He came to Oklahoma State by way of the 2022 signing class and has quickly become one of college football’s best tailbacks.
As a sophomore last year, Gordon led the nation in rushing with 1,732 yards and 21 touchdowns. He won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back, earned unanimous All-American honors, was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and finished seventh in voting for the Heisman.
Gordon’s return to Oklahoma State in 2024 has the Cowboys poised to challenge for a Big 12 title. They won 10 games a year ago but lost to Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game.
The Big 12 will hold its annual Media Days event next week in Las Vegas. Oklahoma State is scheduled to speak on Tuesday, July 9. The Big 12 announced on Monday that Gordon would be 1 of 4 players representing the Cowboys at the event. It’s unclear if Gordon will still be attending the event, but head coach Mike Gundy will surely field questions about any future discipline for his star tailback.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
