Pat McAfee’s kicking contest has become one of the more entertaining weekly segments on College GameDay. Saturday’s show had a twist in more than ways one.
Unfortunately, the first choice for the kicking contest tore his ACL while warming up for the segment, McAfee told the ESPN audience. The injury meant that GameDay had to turn to a backup option for the kick. McAfee offered to give both the first-choice backup kickers $100,000.

“Jeram, the first kicker, Jake, tore his ACL warming up behind the stage,” McAfee said. “You’re the second pick. If you make this kick, both you and Jake will make $100,000. So, this is not just for you, it’s for a knee that was blown out earlier.”
The backup kicker did not have the accuracy to cost McAfee $200,000. Even having Kirk Herbstreit’s dog Ben on set was not enough good luck.

Hopefully, the kicking challenge participant in Week 10 has better luck with the kick (and avoids injury). While a $200,000 kick would have made for great TV, it’s still an awesome scene in Bloomington.
