The Heisman Trophy race appears to be a complete toss up. Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker likely lost his status as the favorite after he struggled in a 27-13 loss to Georgia.
ESPN College Gameday anchor Rece Davis was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday to talk about the Heisman race and potential favorites.
“It really changed for Hendon on Saturday, because he’s not going to have that type of stage to win it late,” Davis said. “C.J. Stroud is going to have that platform when they play Michigan late, so I would say that he is probably the favorite.”
Davis also wanted to give a shout out to Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett IV, but concedes that he doesn’t have the numbers for consideration.
“All that guy does is win and make big plays in their biggest games,” Davis added. “He’s sort of the heartbeat of that team. But he’s only got 11 touchdown passes.”
With several other hopefuls out there like Michigan running back Blake Corum, USC quarterback Caleb Williams and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, Davis has another potential sleeper.
“If you are looking for someone on the outside it would probably be TCU quarterback Max Duggan.”
