Every 1,000-Yard Rusher in Alabama Football History
By Chris Wright
Last Updated:
In case there’s any doubt about how football is played in T-Town, there’s a friendly t-shirt to remind you:
“Run Da Bawl!”
Few teams in college football history have run the ball better than Alabama, which, from Bear Bryant to Nick Saban, has leaned on that physical, punishing style of play to claim 18 national championships. Saban, of course, won 6 at Alabama, matching Bryant’s total.
Alabama players have rushed for 1,000 yards 24 times through the 2024 season. Seven Alabama players have rushed for 1,000 or more yards twice in their career.
Derrick Henry ran for a program-record (and SEC-record) 2,219 yards in Alabama’s 2015 national championship season.
Alabama’s 1,000-yard rushers
Here is the complete list of every 1,000-yard rusher in Alabama football history, entering the 2025 season:
Progression of Alabama’s Single-Season Rushing Record
In 1970, Johnny Musso became Alabama’s first 1,000-yard rusher, and thus set the program’s single-season rushing record. Here’s every record-holder since then (bold indicates the year the record was set):
Years at No. 1 | Player | Rushing Yards |
---|---|---|
2015-present | Derrick Henry | 2,219 |
2011-2015 | Trent Richardson | 1,679 |
2009-2011 | Mark Ingram | 1,658 |
1986-2009 | Bobby Humphrey | 1,471 |
1970-1986 | Johnny Musso | 1,137 |
