Western Kentucky might have the best new helmet in college football this season.
Certainly the most unique.
The Hilltoppers unveiled a new all-red look on Thursday, one that draws direct inspiration from the school’s mascot, Big Red. On the helmet, the traditional WKU logo is replaced with a set of eyes — Big Red’s eyes, to be specific.
In an accompanying tweet from the WKU football account, the Hilltoppers said “Big Red sees all.”

Western Kentucky’s NIL store is also selling merchandise with Big Red’s likeness on it. There’s a crewneck sweatshirt and a t-shirt that features the new helmet in an old-school graphic. Proceeds from those purchases go toward WKU athletes.
Sitting at 3-2 on the season, the Hilltoppers opened with a 63-0 loss to Alabama on the road but won their next 3 games. They’re coming off a 21-20 loss at Boston College in which the Eagles had to rally with 14 points in the fourth quarter to pull escape with a win at home.
WKU is on its bye week this week, but it’ll return in Week 7 to host UTEP on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU. That game will see the Big Red-inspired uniforms make their on-field debut.
