Mike Krzyzewski responds to the speculation that he may coach again

When North Carolina ended Duke’s NCAA Tournament run, there was instant talk of Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski “unretiring” like Tom Brady did last month. Fans speculated, some jokingly, that Coach K would be unable to hang it up after losing to rival UNC in his final game. Krzyzewski was asked about that “speculation” during a recent interview. Coach K said he won’t be pulling a Brady.
Krzyzewski, 75, focused on being linked to Brady, saying he was flattered, but the situations are different.
“Wow, to even be put in the same room, maybe, that Brady would be in is an honor, but he still has talent that can be used at a really high level,” Krzyzewski said. “I’m done with the coaching part of it, but wow.”
Krzyzewski’s retirement announcement was made in June 2021, setting up the Coach K farewell tour for the 2021-22 college basketball season. When Duke formally announced Krzyzewski’s plans to retire, assistant coach Jon Scheyer was also named the successor starting in April 2022.
Krzyzewski coached at Army from 1975-80 before coaching Duke for over 4 decades (1980-2022). His all-time record is 1,202-368. Coach K has 5 NCAA Tournament championship rings from 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010 and 2015.
