Billy Napier comments on Mississippi State victory: ‘It feels good to win a game’

Billy Napier is, by basically all accounts, lucky to still be the head coach of the Florida Gators at this point.
But while he’s probably still feeling the heat of his shortcomings over the beginning of the season and beyond, there had to be something comforting about the way the Gators completely throttled the Mississippi State Bulldogs on the road, 45-28.
That was echoed at the very top of his opening statement of the postgame press conference.
“Man, it feels good to win a game,” Napier said. “I think we did enough to win today. I was really impressed, thought offensively we had some tempo about us, thought we played well around the quarterback.”
Florida seemed to be stronger and more put together in the way the team operated than we’ve seen so far this season as Graham Mertz shone.
The veteran quarterback recorded his best performance of the season, completing 19 of his 21 passing attempts for 201 yards with 3 touchdowns. Overall, consistency was what won Florida the game.
“We were a little more consistent across the board today, but we know that there’s going to be more consistency required. The rush and the coverage got to work together,” Napier said. “Overall, the rush defense has got to get shored up, and we have to eliminate some of these penalties that we had. We got away with a couple, on offense we overcame them.”
Florida will look to build upon this as the Gators take on UCF on Oct. 5.
