Billy Napier plays coy when asked about Florida’s QB plans moving forward

Billy Napier now has a dilemma at the quarterback position for the Florida Gators.
DJ Lagway took over for Graham Mertz on Saturday night at The Swamp in a comfortable win over an overmatched Samford squad. But the reason he started was because Mertz was concussed in a loss to Miami last week.
Mertz still hasn’t cleared concussion protocol, but assuming he does by Florida’s Week 3 game against Texas A&M, what will Napier do?
He was asked about his QB plans after Saturday’s 45-7 win over Samford and he dodged the question. Napier said Lagway would be a part of the game plan, but he added coyly that Lagway was part of the plan against Miami last week, as well.
#Gators head coach Billy Napier asked about DJ Lagway's chances of leading UF moving forward says "our intentions are the same, we intend to play him every week. We intended to do that last week as well."

Considering Lagway threw for 456 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions against Samford, it’ll be hard to keep him off the field, even if Mertz is fully healthy.
Fans have already started falling in love with the elite freshman QB, and it’s easy to see why.
Napier is on the hot seat and can’t afford to play anyone who isn’t the best QB on his roster. Lagway earned a shot with his performance in Week 2. We’ll see what happens in Week 3, but this seems like a pivotal moment for the 2024 Florida Gators.
