Dan Mullen hires Houston OC Brian Johnson for his staff at Florida

Dan Mullen has brought another former Mississippi State assistant with him to Florida, announcing the hire of Brian Johnson on Sunday.
Johnson served on Mullen’s Mississippi State staff as quarterbacks coach from 2014 to 2016, working with Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald. He also served as Houston’s offensive coordinator in 2017.
Johnson led the Utah Utes to a 2008 Sugar Bowl victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide during his playing days — one of the biggest wins for a then-mid-major program over a powerhouse school.
Florida announced Johnson’s hire on Twitter on Sunday afternoon:

Reporter Joseph Duarte reports that Johnson will join Mullen’s staff as the quarterbacks coach, and also tweeted out Houston coach Major Applewhite’s response to Sunday’s news:

Mullen is quickly filling several key staff positions, mostly with coaches he’s worked with before.
He’s had great levels of success with these former coaches, so it’ll be interesting to see if that momentum follows the group to Gainesville.
