We are almost a week away from the first Saturday of college football and Dan Mullen still hasn’t publicly named a starting quarterback for the Gators.

During his press conference on Thursday, Mullen was again asked if he had any update with who would be under center for Florida, and he indicated that the decision is close to being made.

“It’s same as where it’s been. It is what it is. There’s so much going on,” said Mullen. “I know Brian (Johnson) and I have had some discussions. We have another big practice day today. Brian and I will really sit down and find out who’s going to give us the best opportunity to win games. It’s about winning games this year.”

Mullen says that important talks are still to be had and that he’s not trying to hold on to a secret from the media.

Arkansas and Kentucky have already publicly flirted with the idea of using multiple quarterbacks in the early season, but Mullen doesn’t seem interested in that idea. He said Thursday that he will know who the starter will be going into game week, and “has a feeling” who it will be.  That means that in just a couple days, Mullen will know, at least in his mind, who will lead the Gators on offense in 2018.

The two favorites vying for the position are Kyle Trask and Feleipe Franks, and Mullen said that they have made a lot of progress when it came to knowing the offense and showing their different personalities on the field.
