Florida baseball breaks multiple records in dominant Game 2 victory over LSU

Florida delivered a beatdown that can barely be classified as a sporting event Sunday evening in Game 2 of the CWS Championship series against LSU.

The Gators and Tigers kept things close to start in what looked like it would be another close CWS game, but things got out of hand quickly. The Gators plated 24 runs in a 24-4 victory over LSU, scoring 21 straight runs before the Tigers added a final run in the bottom of the 9th.

The dominance of this game can best be described by the absurd number of records broken across its 3 and a half hours of regulation. Sunday’s Game 2 featured…

  • The largest margin of victory in a CWS Finals game, tied for 2nd most in CWS history.
  • 6 home runs by the Gators, which is the most in a CWS Finals game.
  • 24 runs scored by UF, which is the most in CWS history by a single team.
  • Florida securing its 54th win of the season, the most in program history.

There was an individual record broken Sunday, too. Jac Caglianone hit home runs No. 32 and 33 to surpass Ivan Melendez’s single-season BBCOR home run record set in 2022.

Think that’s incredible? He’ll be on the mound tomorrow looking to guide Florida to its 2nd national title in the past 10 years:

To put this into perspective, Florida scored more on LSU Sunday than its football team has in 47 of their 66 matchups all-time.

In a baseball game.

Game 3 is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN. You won’t want to miss this one!
