Florida moved up multiple spots in ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index following Saturday’s slate of games.

The Gators defeated LSU 79-65 on Saturday to move to 24-3 on the season. As a result of that performance — and other games from across the country — Florida moved up 3 spots to No. 5 overall in the latest BPI rankings, which were updated on Sunday morning.

Florida is now behind only Duke, Houston, Auburn and Tennessee in the BPI rankings. Previously, the Gators were also behind Alabama, Iowa State and Arizona.

Amongst the teams ahead of Florida, the Gators have faced the Vols twice and Tigers once. Florida split the season series with Tennessee but handed Auburn its first SEC loss of the season back on Feb. 8.

ESPN’s BPI has been a bit of a mess at times this season, but it’s still good to see the Gators move into the top 5 of the model. Florida is also in the top-5 of other predictive metrics like KenPom and BartTorvik with just a few weeks to go in the regular season. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi is also projecting Florida to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament as things currently stand.

Florida will face Georgia on the road on Tuesday night.
