Graham Mertz was injured during Florida’s loss to Tennessee in Week 7. Unfortunately, it looks like that injury is going to keep Mertz out of the lineup for the rest of the season.
According to Matt Zenitz with CBS Sports, Mertz is expected to miss the rest of the season with what is described as a knee injury. The veteran QB also missed time earlier in the season with a concussion.
The injury was a non-contact situation that appeared to initially happen on a touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter. That touchdown gave the Gators a 10-0 lead before Tennessee would rally for a win in overtime.

After a rough start to the season, Mertz rebounded impressively and was completing 76.6% of his passes, a mark that led all of FBS through Week 7. He also led the Gators with 6 touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown.
If Mertz is indeed out for the rest of the season, 5-star freshman DJ Lagway will be the leader of the offense moving forward. Lagway has appeared in all 6 games of the season as part of a 2-QB system for Florida, but he most recently struggled against the Vols.
The freshman most recently completed just 52.9% of his passes for 98 yards with a touchdown and an interception against Tennessee. Overall, Lagway has 765 yards for the season with 5 touchdowns but 4 interceptions.
