Kaiir Elam has a new team. The Florida defensive back was selected by the Buffalo Bills with pick No. 23 in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Elam, a Florida legacy, was a top-50 overall recruit in the class of 2019 coming out of The Benjamin School. He signed with UF over 40 other scholarship offers and went on to be a 3-year contributor for the Gators before turning pro.
As a true freshman in 2019, Elam appeared in all 13 Florida games, making 5 starts, recording 11 tackles, 3 interceptions and 4 passes defended. He was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team.
Elam was voted All-SEC First Team by the conference coaches in 2020, his sophomore season. A starter in all 12 games, Elam logged 39 tackles including 1 for loss, 2 interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
This past season, Elam’s participation was limited to 10 games as he missed time due to injury. As a junior, he recorded 29 tackles (1.5 TFL), 5 pass breakups and an interception.
Kaiir’s uncle, Matt Elam, was also a defensive back at Florida (2010-12) before playing in the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens selected Matt Elam in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
