The Emory Jones hype train is officially here as Florida’s new quarterback was recently projected as a top 10 overall selection in a 2022 NFL mock draft.

That’s a bold take for many reasons and one that seems to come without much evidence based on what we’ve seen on the field from the Gator quarterback up to this point — Jones has completed 55 of 86 attempts for 613 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception in three seasons at Florida.

Be that as it may, it didn’t stop Pro Football Focus from listing Jones as the No. 6 overall selection to the Philadelphia Eagles in its latest 2022 NFL mock draft.

Keep in mind, the same PFF writer ranked Jamie Newman as one of the top five QB prospects for the 2020 NFL Draft at this time last year. Of course, Newman opted out of the 2020 college football season, and that poor decision obviously tanked his NFL stock (Newman went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft).

There’s no doubt Jones’ production should rise dramatically this season with his path to the field finally open following the departure of Kyle Trask to the NFL. Still, it remains to be seen if Jones can carry an offense like he will be asked to do next season in Gainesville.

Until we see that, projecting Jones as a top 10 pick seems like a reach.

If nothing else, it should be entertaining to see how the Florida fans that mocked the Jamie Newman hype last offseason react to this top 10 projection of their quarterback.
