Ohio State QB Joe Burrow mentioned as possible grad transfer candidate to Florida

Could Dan Mullen’s first starting quarterback in Gainesville currently be on Ohio State’s roster?
According to Bill Greene, an Ohio State insider for 247Sports, Buckeye quarterback Joe Burrow is a likely candidate to utilize the graduate transfer rule and leave Columbus for another program. Greene made several interesting comments regarding Burrows and Florida recently during an appearance on the Bucknuts Morning 5 podcast.
Greene had this to say regarding the possibility of Burrow’s transfer from Ohio State, “I think it’s real.”
Burrow is currently battling Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell for the opening spot at quarterback open at Ohio State following the departure of J.T. Barrett’s graduation. While noting several schools have been rumored as potential destinations, Greene indicted the latest rumor is Florida could be the landing spot should Burrow leave Ohio State.
“The school I heard yesterday, and it makes sense, is Florida,” Greene said.
“The Florida QB situation is not good. They don’t feel Emory Jones is ready to play, right now. They’re not happy with what they were handed to over there. Dan Mullen has a great reputation as a quarterback guru, so there’s a lot of things there that make sense. I did hear Joey Burrow’s name come up yesterday.”
However, he quickly stated he did not know for a fact Burrow would leave Ohio State via transfer. So this could be more of a hypothetical at this point.
The show’s other host, Dave Biddle of 247Sports, notes that several people have mentioned to him to prepare a story in advance for the potential transfer of Burrow, indicating his departure could be more than pure speculation.
It would be fascinating to see Urban Meyer help out his former offensive coordinator with the potential starting quarterback in Gainesville. Although, Gator fans would rightly be cautious getting too excited about a graduate transfer QB this offseason. All the anticipation for Malik Zaire was completely overblown last season and he basically contributed nothing to a 4-7 team.
If Burrow did leave Ohio State and become a graduate transfer, he would have two years to play. In his two seasons on the field in Columbus, Burrow has thrown for a total of 287 yards and two touchdowns in 10 appearances.
