Veteran SEC play-caller Doug Nussmeier could become an NFL offensive coordinator.
Multiple outlets are reporting that the former Florida assistant is a candidate to replace Scott Linehan in Dallas. Nussmeier, Linehan and Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett are all connected to Nick Saban. Garrett and Linehan were Saban assistants during his time with the Miami Dolphins while Nussmeier was the offensive coordinator at Alabama for the 2012 and ’13 seasons.
Nussmeier departed Alabama after the 2013 season to become the offensive coordinator at Michigan. After one season with the Wolverines, when UM ranked No. 115 nationally in total offense, he returned to the SEC as offensive coordinator at Florida under Jim McElwain. In his three seasons at UF, the Gators ranked No. 112, No. 116 and No. 110 in total offense.
In 2018, Nussmeier was on the Dallas staff as tight ends coach.
I’d get ready for Doug Nussmeier. A lot of experience with QBs and as an OC in the college game. https://t.co/LIo7sNvsRp

When Cowboys brought Doug Nussmeier on staff for 2018, he seemed to fit what Jerry wanted, being able to integrate parts of college game into Dallas’ offense. He was an OC for 10 years at college level, most recently with Florida & Michigan. Also coached Amari Cooper at Bama.
