To save money against the salary cap, the Tennessee Titans released former Florida cornerback Janoris “Jackrabbit” Jenkins on Tuesday, a year after he appeared in 14 games with 13 starts for the club in 2021.
He had 54 tackles, made an interception, broke up 6 passes, and a forced fumble. The move saves the Titans $6.9 million against the cap with a $3.2 million dead cap charge, according to the Tennessean.
The veteran Jenkins was drafted in the second round of the 2012 draft, and has appeared in 142 games for the Rams (2012-15), Giants (2016-19) and Saints (2019-20) and Titans. He has 27 interceptions and 124 passes defensed in his career.
He was named a Pro Bowler in 2016.

The move is also designed to bring in new faces on the roster and into the starting lineup.
For example, 2021 first-round pick Caleb Farley could be a starter next season alongside Kristian Fulton. A former Virginia Tech star, Farley played just 3 games last season after battling a shoulder issue and a knee injury, which landed him on injured reserve. The Titans are also expected to add more depth at cornerback.
Jenkins at Florida appeared in 39 games with 36 career starts, and made 121 tackles, 8 interceptions and 25 pass breakups his first 3 years on campus. He was named 2010 first-team All-SEC by the AP and second-team All-SEC by the coaches and Phil Steele.
