One of Tim Tebow’s college records was eclipsed on Saturday.

South Florida QB Quinton Flowers rushed for 93 yards to give him 2,989 career rushing yards. That mark surpasses Tebow’s record of 2,947 yards for a Division I-A QB in the state of Florida.

Joey Knight with the Tampa Bay Times reports Flowers heaped praise on his offensive line after setting the record.

“Them guys, they just kept telling the coaches, ‘Just hand it (off), let the running backs eat,'” Flowers said. “And that’s what you want out of an O-line, guys that want to block for your running back and do whatever it takes to keep the chains moving.

Flowers has put together a remarkable career after turning down a number of various offers to attend USF. He was drawn to the Bulls because they offered him the chance to stay at QB.

Will Muschamp did recruit Flowers while he was head coach of the Gators, but he did not believe Flowers could play QB in the SEC. Now, Flowers has eclipsed a record set by a former Gator legend and has given many SEC fans a view of what could have been.

It is a remarkable accomplishment for Flowers, but he still trails Tebow in a number of categories. Flowers, a senior, has amassed 88 total touchdowns so far while Tebow had 88 touchdowns through the air alone. Tebow added 57 rushing touchdowns where Flowers has just 34 rushing scores to date.

Tebow also captured the 2007 Heisman Trophy and was a part of two national championship teams with the Gators.

Flowers may not catch Tebow’s other amazing stats, but eclipsing the rushing record is still an amazing accomplishment.
