Will Richard scored the game-winning points for the Florida Gators on Wednesday to cap off an incredible comeback.

The points by Richard gave the Gators their first lead of the game. The team was down by as many as 14 points at one time, but a sloppy 2nd half from the Gamecocks kept UF in it. After the Richard layup, Jacobi Wright attempted a deep 3 for the win, to no avail.

It’s a heartbreaking loss for the Gamecocks, who seemed destined to pick up their 1st conference win of the season. Instead, South Carolina falls to 0-6 in SEC play while the Gators improve to 4-2.

Richard led Florida in points with 22 on the night. The senior guard also added 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. Walter Clayton Jr. and Alijah Martin also scored in double-digits for the Gators with 16 and 14 points respectively.

For the Gamecocks, Zachary Davis led the way with 22 points. Collin Murray-Boyles and Arden Conyers were the other players to reach double-figures with 14 and 10 points.

On the night, the Gamecocks outrebounded the Gators and shot better from 3. Florida forced more turnovers and scored more points in the paint, which ended up being the difference.

UF now has conference wins over Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and South Carolina, with losses to Kentucky and Mizzou. Meanwhile, this was the Gamecocks’ 3rd conference loss of less than 5 points.

The Gators’ next test will be a home matchup against Georgia on Saturday.
