Arik Gilbert was once an elite prospect with an impressive blend of size and athleticism. After multiple transfers, and some off-field incidents, Gilbert did not spend the 2024 season on a roster.

Now, he is reportedly back in the transfer portal once again, according to On3 Sports. It will be interesting to see what kind of suitors Gilbert can muster after he last appeared in a game during the 2022 season with Georgia.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 253 pounds, Gilbert was originally a 5-star recruit and the No. 5 player in the country out of Marietta, Georgia in the 2020 recruiting class. He spent his true freshman season with LSU where he recorded 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Gilbert would enter the transfer portal and originally head to Florida in the 2021 transfer cycle. However, he would re-enter the portal and move to Georgia during the summer.

After sitting during the 2021 season, Gilbert saw very limited action for the Bulldogs in 2022. He recorded just 2 catches and a touchdown with both coming in a win over Vanderbilt.

Following the 2022 season, Gilbert went back to the portal and landed at Nebraska for the 2023 season. Unfortunately, he was not immediately eligible due to transfer rules, and he would later have some off-field issues.

In August of 2023, Gilbert was arrested on a burglary charge after an incident at a liquor and vape shot in Nebraska. He was later arrested for a second incident in September last year, this time on burglary and obstruction charges in Lumpkin County, Georgia.

It will be interesting to see if any power conference program is willing to take a chance on Gilbert at this point in his career.
