Rodrigo Blankenship was released by the Arizona Cardinals in an injury settlement move after the former Georgia kicker joined the team last month.

Blankenship spent 2 games with Arizona, going 4-of-5 on field goals in place of Matt Prater, who was limited this past week as he recovers from a hip injury.

Blankenship began his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts and made 45 of 53 field goals in his career in 2 seasons and one game with the Colts. He played in just 5 games last season because of a hip injury, and made 11 of 14 field goals. He was released after the opener when he missed a 42-yard field goal in overtime of a 20-20 tie with the Texans.

A fan favorite at Georgia, where he is the career scoring leader, Blankenship is known around Georgia by his nicknames “Hot Rod” and “Respect the Specs,” a nod to the glasses he wears during games.
