Brock Bowers officially set the record for receptions by a rookie, regardless of position, in a single season in NFL history on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The first-year tight end from Georgia brought in a third-and-8 reception over the middle in the third quarter for his 110th reception of the season. He had been tied with former LSU receiver Malik Nabers entering his final game of the season, but Bowers brought in 4 catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in the game to inch in front of Nabers and hold the record for himself.
Bowers is just the fifth tight end in NFL history to record 110 receptions in a single season. That’s regardless of experience level. In his debut season with the Las Vegas Raiders, Bowers had one of the most productive years by a tight end the NFL has ever seen.
When the Raiders spent the 13th overall pick on him in last year’s NFL Draft, they knew they were getting a stud, but only the most optimistic of fans could have projected Bowers to make history in Year 1. Bowers is the first player in Raiders history to have 110 receptions in a season.
Bowers topped 100 yards receiving twice during his rookie season. He also brought in 5 touchdown receptions — the third-most by a rookie in a season in Raiders history.
With the season over for Las Vegas (4-13), Bowers ends the year with 112 receptions on 153 targets. He produced 1,154 receiving yards and 5 scores.
