Carson Beck injured on final play of first half in SEC Championship

Carson Beck and Georgia just completed a sluggish first half against Texas and entered halftime trailing 6-3. However, a larger concern for the Bulldogs will be the status of the starting quarterback moving forward.

On the final play of the half, Beck dropped back and was ready to unleash a Hail Mary at the buzzer. Instead of getting that pass off, Beck was stripped by a Texas defender in a forced fumble that set off a wild sequence to end the half.

While Georgia’s offense was able to stop Texas from a scoop-and-score without any time on the clock, Beck laid on the turf for a long moment and was clearly in pain. Replays showed that Beck’s elbow was hit hard as he was beginning his forward throwing motion on the play.

It’s unclear what exactly the ailment for Beck might be, but he appeared to be grabbing his throwing shoulder for a long moment. He eventually walked off the field under his own power but was being tended to by the training staff heading toward the locker room.

Head coach Kirby Smart said on the field that he expects Beck to be able to go in the second half. However, he did acknowledge Beck needed to be checked out during the break and said the QB referenced his hand getting hit walking off the field.
