The Florida Gators have gotten the best of the Georgia Bulldogs the past three years, winning The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party by at least 14 points each time.
This year, the Bulldogs enter as the No. 3 team in the nation, boasting an unblemished 7-0 record.
However, according to Macon.com, coach Kirby Smart isn’t letting his team get too caught up in its own hype, providing a sobering reminder of what’s happened in the rivalry recently.
TE Jeb Blazevich said Smart asked all the Georgia players who have beaten Florida to stand up during a team meeting, only to have no one rise out of their seats:
“It was sobering. I think with so much praise going on, on the outside, it was like, ‘Guys this is where we’re at. We haven’t beaten these guys,’” Blazevich said. “It was a call to action to get back to work, coming off the bye week. Sometimes you need to get cranked up but we already did that.”
Now, Blazevich said, the Bulldogs have a new energy heading into this week of practice and are hungry to earn a victory over their SEC East rivals:
“It set the tone for the week,” Blazevich said. “When you get back to work coming off the bye week, sometimes it’s hard to start. Once he said that it was time to get back in there and get to work. We’ve got a job to do.”
Saturday’s rivalry game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on CBS.
