Gunner Stockton will replace quarterback Carson Beck for the second half of the SEC Championship Game.

Beck suffered an apparently arm injury on the final play of the first half. He was hit from behind while attempting to throw a Hail Mary right at the end of the second quarter.

According to ABC’s Holly Rowe, Beck will not be able to return to the game due to that injury. ABC’s cameras showed Beck with ice on his right elbow.

With Beck sidelined, Georgia’s SEC title hopes shift to Stockton’s shoulders. Stockton was the No. 124 overall player and the No. 7 quarterback in the country for the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Although he was an elite recruit coming out of high school, he’s yet to see meaningful snaps in his Georgia career prior to this moment.

Entering this game, Stockton has completed 25-of-35 passes for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns in his Georgia career. However, his only pass attempts this season came against Tennessee Tech and UMass.

Stockton has only faced 1 power-conference opponent in his career prior this game: against a depleted Florida State roster in the Orange Bowl last season. He completed 6-of-10 passes for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns in that game.

Georgia averaged under 3 yards per play in the first half for the third time this season, but trail just 6-3 as the offense takes the field with Stockton under center to start the third quarter. The Bulldogs will need a big half from Stockton in order to complete the comeback against Texas.
