Kirby Smart issues statement on Scott Cochran’s absence from Georgia football team

Kirby Smart has issued a brief statement to reporters on Scott Cochran’s absence from the Georgia football team.
“Coach Cochran is currently dealing with health issues and is taking time to prioritize his mental health and well-being. We fully support him as he takes this time to focus on his well-being,” Smarts statement reads.
Seth Emerson of The Athletic broke the story that Cochran was away from the football team. It has not been reported how long Cochran will be absent.
In Cochran’s absence, Smart has reportedly promoted Will Muschamp to an on-field role. Muschamp was fired as South Carolina’s head coach during the 2020 season and joined Smart’s UGA staff in an off-field role in early 2021.
