Back in 2005, Kirby Smart served as a running backs coach on Mark Richt’s Georgia staff. In 2016, he ended up replacing Richt as the Bulldogs’ head coach.
Smart won’t be leaving Georgia for Miami anytime soon, as he has the Bulldogs positioned to compete for national championships in the coming years. Still, he appreciates what Richt has done for him throughout his career.
As you can see below, the current Georgia coach sent his best wishes to the former Georgia coach via Twitter on Sunday afternoon:
Best of luck to @MarkRicht in retirement. Proud to have worked with a great coach and an even better man. Go Dawgs!!

For Richt, it seems like he just decided it was time to leave the grind of coaching behind him. Smart, though, is still young and has a long way to go in the coaching world.
Smart learned a lot from Richt, so it is no surprise he was eager to wish his former boss well.
