Kirby Smart had several interactions with Dan Lanning before and after Georgia’s blowout win over Oregon, and the national championship coach shared what he told one of his former assistants.

Even though Georgia won 49-3, Smart shared his message to Lanning.

“He’s a good coach and to keep fighting,” Smart said after the game. “And we got some of the players here because of him. He helped recruit them. So, it’s always hard to make that transition. He’ll do a great job at Oregon.”

Georgia got 2 interceptions of Oregon QB Bo Nix, and held the Ducks to 7-for-15 on third down conversions. The Bulldogs had a strong offensive performance, as they racked up 571 yards compared to 313 for Oregon.

Nix was 21-for-37 passing for 173 yards. But Stetson Bennett stole the show, with a big game as he went 25-for-31 passing for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bennett also had 2 carries for 8 yards and another touchdown.

Among the impressive performances for Georgia was a strong offensive line, which gave Bennett time to make plays, and a defense that was smothering despite losing 5 players to the first round of the NFL Draft.
