Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams are finalizing a new contract, according to a report.

After weeks of speculation revolving around Stafford’s future as he enters the final 2 years of his contract, the former Georgia star and the Rams are finalizing an agreement that will keep him with the franchise. That’s per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

This move would avoid any of the trade rumors that have been brought up in recent weeks. The New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders, in-particular, had been linked to Stafford while there was uncertainty over his future with the Rams.

Stafford’s decision could also have a material impact on the NFL Draft. With teams like the Giants and Raiders needing a quarterback for 2025, it’s possible they pivot to selecting a QB in the 1st round of April’s draft. The Cleveland Browns, who currently hold the No. 2 overall pick, had also been linked to Stafford. The Giants own pick No. 3 while the Raiders are at pick No. 6.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward is currently the betting favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans, but that could change following the NFL Combine this week.

Stafford will enter the 2025 season ranked No. 10 on the NFL’s all-time passing yardage leaderboard. He’s 2nd amongst active quarterbacks behind only Aaron Rodgers. Stafford is in position to rise up multiple spots on that all-time leaderboard next season.

Financial details for Stafford’s next deal have not yet been reported.
