Sugar Bowl new start times for Thursday were being reported on Wednesday in the aftermath of the tragedy in New Orleans that killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more. ESPN is now reporting that the official kickoff time will be 4 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon from the Caesars Superdome.

That’s when Georgia and Notre Dame will battle in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal showdown that was originally scheduled for 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night but was pushed back after a truck plowed into a crowd of people in the early morning hours of Wednesday in New Orleans.

The game had originally been pushed back exactly 24 hours to 8:45 p.m. ET on Thursday night. But then the 2 teams began discussions that centered on moving up the kickoff time earlier in the day Thursday for rest and recovery purposes, according to ESPN.

As it turns out, the teams got what they wanted, as the game won’t be a full 24 hours later and will instead be a late afternoon kickoff from the Superdome.

Both teams have released statements saying that their football traveling parties are all safe and accounted for in New Orleans, with both schools also putting out statements regarding the tragedy.
