Kentucky finishes SEC play with embarrassing offensive stat

With a 1-7 record in conference play, it’s safe to say that Kentucky had a pretty rough time in the SEC this season.

And there’s a statistic to prove it, as a UK Sports Network statistician pointed out following UK’s 31-14 loss to Texas on Saturday:

So yes, the Wildcats turned the ball over 5 more times than they found the end zone offensively over the course of the conference season. As a result, they failed to eclipse the 20-point mark in a single league game, and Kentucky ranked in the bottom half of the nation in passing yards per game, rushing yards per game and points per game.

The struggles have largely stemmed from issues at quarterback. Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff figured to be the next great signal-caller in Lexington, but he had an up-and-down season marred by injury. Freshman Cutter Boley stepped in during the Texas game and completed 10-of-18 passes for 160 yards and an interception.

This was a far cry from what the Wildcat faithful are used to under Mark Stoops, as he’s taken Kentucky to a bowl game in every season since 2016 yet will fail to do so this year.

The Wildcats will look to salvage something other than an upset win over Ole Miss from its season when it hosts arch rivals Louisville for the Governor’s Cup at noon on Saturday.
