Fair assessment in the wardrobe department?
For a program that hasn’t seen a winning season since 2009, Kentucky sure does push the envelope when it comes to style, the league’s proud owner of some of the most attractive alternate combinations in college football.
The Wildcats have given Nike creative power in recent years including the adoption of an all-black alternate, a grey set and chrome helmets. Coinciding with Kentucky’s ‘Rise’ marketing campaign in 2011, the Wildcats debuted their current template, jerseys with checkered shoulders and pants with checkered vents. White helmets returned for the first time in a decade.
With the redesign came a black alternate jersey with blue and white accents that looks sharp with any of the Wildcats’ four pants options. Last fall, Kentucky donned an all-black look paired with chrome helmets for the first time in program history, drawing Uniswag’s college football uniform of the year award.
The 2014 campaign also featured the Wildcats’ all-grey alternate for the first time and an improved blue helmet with chrome accents.
The Wildcats’ current uniforms are under Nike’s Pro Combat umbrella, an elite area of design intended to produce light, moisture-wicking apparel. The advanced tweaks to Kentucky’s gameday apparel include stretchable material, heavy ventilation and built-in padding that has been added in the knee area.
Kentucky began wearing the swoosh on its football uniforms during the mid 1990s, moving over from Riddell. In 1997, Kentucky began using the current interlocking UK on the shell, switching a single K logo.
