After weeks and weeks of sub-optimal quarterback play from starter Brock Vandagriff, Kentucky made a firm statement about the future of the position moving forward on Monday.

Head coach mark Stoops announced during his weekly press conference that freshman QB Cutter Boley will start Saturday’s season finale against Louisville. Boley Saw action against Texas last week and though he didn’t exactly fill the stat sheet, there were signs of promise from the young QB.

Boley also played against Murray State, completing 10 of his 14 passes for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Obviously, Kentucky’s season is officially over after this Saturday’s contest. The Wildcats sit at 4-7 on the season and will miss out on a trip to a bowl game. Starting Boley, then, seems to indicate that the Wildcats (correctly) plan on moving on from Vandagriff after this season.

Unfortunately for Wildcats fans, Vandagriff was quite underwhelming under center. His completion percentage was among the lowest in the SEC and he threw for less yards than all but 2 QBs in the conference (minimum 8 games), Marcel Reed and Jackson Arnold – both of whom played in 9 games compared to Vandagriff’s 11.

Kentucky is set to battle against their in-state rival at Noon on SEC Network this Saturday from Lexington.
