The Kentucky Wildcats (4-1) enjoyed their biggest fourth quarter comeback in school history to beat South Carolina 45-38 on Saturday. The Wildcats faced a 38-24 deficit before rallying to capture their second SEC win of the season.
But second-year coach Mark Stoops realizes there’s still room from improvement midway through the season. The coach reflected on Saturday’s win during his weekly press conference Monday.
“They came out strong,” Stoops said of his team. “There is still a lot more in this team. We can be a lot better and we’re going to continue to work extremely hard to improve. Extremely proud of ’em. I’ve said that, again, after the game and still feel that way. Feel so proud of the effort and the toughness and the resolve of this team, and that says a lot about what we’re doing. But with that being said, there is just so much more to improve on.”
Stoops has already improved the Kentucky football program since his arrival. The Wildcats have already matched their overall record and SEC win total from the past two seasons combined. The Wildcats have a strong chance to make their first bowl game since 2010.
“It’s a one week season for me,” Stoops said. “We gotta go play well this week, and it starts over. Win or lose, it starts over for us on Sunday. That’s the way we approach it and that’s the way our team needs to approach it. We do the best we can, whether it be sports science and how we practice and how we monitor their health, we do certain things.”
