Kentucky coach Mark Stoops met with the media Monday in advance of his team’s season opener on Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe.
One of the topics that was raised was ongoing legal issues for a handful of Wildcats, which will leave Stoops’ squad shorthanded to start the season.
Stoops didn’t offer much in the way of details about individual situations, but he did make it clear that he hopes to have those players back. At this point, however, he said certain things are out of his hands:
“It’s not always personal. There’s flaws in the system at times. We have to trust that system, and we will. … I hope to have all the players out there. I don’t know, that’s out of my hands.”

Stoops also maintained that he believes in the 6 players whose status remains unknown and that he will trust in the legal system, even though “that gets hard.”

On a brighter note, Stoops also confirmed that his team has surpassed the 85% vaccination threshold, which was a team goal to ensure that the Wildcats don’t miss any games in 2021 due to COVID.
Said Stoops: “They wanted to do it… I didn’t try to sell it… guys want to play.”
