Shaedon Sharpe, who is the No. 1 overall prospect Shaedon Sharpe will still play for Kentucky, but not until next season.
Sharpe plans to graduate from high school early and enroll at Kentucky this winter. He will work out and practice with the Wildcats, but will take a redshirt year. His first game action is expected to come during the 2022-23 season.
As Jonathan Givony of Draft Express pointed out: “He will not be eligible for the 2022 NBA Draft since he did not graduate high school prior to the NBA season starting. He’ll be eligible for NIL deals, though, and will likely cash in big time.”
Sharpe is from Glendale, Arizona (Dream City Christian) and is a 6-foot-5 and 185-pound shooting guard. He has 15 offers, but committed to Kentucky on Sept. 7.
“I just want to get a head start on college basketball and train with older, bigger, stronger and better players,” Sharpe told SI about his decision. “It just makes more sense to me to go play where I can elevate my game the most. This is something I came up with, and when I told the coaches they were all-in.”
